The Diva is not okay. 💔
I’ve been trying to figure out exactly why this is hitting so hard and feels so personal.
And I think I know.
Dolly taught me it was okay to take up space.
To walk into a room with big hair, big ideas, big dreams, a big personality and an even bigger heart, and not make myself smaller so somebody else could be more comfortable.
She taught me that a woman could be soft and strong.
Feminine and fierce.
Kind and powerful.
A little ridiculous. A whole lot glamorous. And incredibly smart.
She taught me that “too much” isn’t necessarily an insult.
Let’s face it, sometimes I am too much.
Too much hair.
Too much sparkle.
Too many ideas.
Too many rhinestones.
Too much passion.
Too much emotion.
Too much personality.
And somewhere along the way, Dolly made women like me believe that maybe we weren’t supposed to tone it down.
Maybe we were supposed to turn it up.
She built an empire without losing her humor, her humility, her faith, her femininity or the little girl from the mountains who dreamed of something bigger.
And she never apologized for being unmistakably, gloriously Dolly.
There is a whole lot of Dolly woven into the DNA of Dime Store Diva, probably more than I ever realized until today.
The whimsy.
The sass.
The sparkle.
The belief that more really can be more.
And especially the belief that a woman has every right to take up every DAMN inch of the space she worked so hard to earn.
So this one hurts.
Thank you, Dolly. 🦋
For the music, of course.
But from this Diva especially, thank you for teaching me that I don’t have to make myself smaller.
You taught us that sometimes a little too much is exactly enough. 💗✨
Rest beautifully, Dolly.
I will always love you.
