9'10" Bushido 3K Musky Rod. I have been able to source the proper Carbon Fiber parts to now extend Bushido 3K blanks out to 10'+. Anything over 10' cannot be shipped (at least for any reasonable amount of money), and would have to be picked up, or possibly meet up somewhere to hand off. We would have to discsuss any rods 9'10" to 10' for shipping, as the length also depends on the size of the tube necessary, which has to be taken into account when determining length + girth for Speedee shipments.

This blank was a 7'11" Bushido 3K X-Heavy for casting 3-10 oz lures, and extended to 9'10" long. The blank was clear coated with an automotive grade Urethane 2K clear coat, which really makes the Reinforced Carbon Fiber Matrix Twill in the blank really jump out (see the last pic in the sunlight), and adds an extra layer of protection to the blank. The butt cap is a shaped Winn Black EVA End Cap. The grips are custom made using solid black EVA along with black/purple camo EVA. The Fuji 20mm Standard Trigger Reel Seat has a Silver hood on the locking nut. The American Tackle Deluxe Large Hook Keeper has a chrome finish to match the silver Annodized Winding check, and the American Tackle TiForged Double Foot Polished Guides, with Nanolite rings. The tip guide is an American Tackle RingLock Heavy Duty in chrome with a Nanolite ring. The wraps are all done in a Fuji Metallic Purple, which look really sharp in contrast to the rod blank. A little weight was needed in the butt end to give the rod a proper balance (since it is so long), and it came out nice. The rod casts very smooth, ridiculously far, and allows for some pretty deep figure 8's.

A customer liked his friends Bushido 3K Musky rods so much, he ordered an identical pair of 9'4" XXH's. The blanks are 7'11" MHX Bushido 3K XXH for 4-12 oz lures, and extended to 9'4" final length. The rod blanks have been clear coated with an automotive Urethane 2K Clear, and really makes the Carbon Fiber wrap in the blanks look 3D. It also adds another layer of protection to the rod blank. The custom grips are made from Natural Superior Burl Cork rings, and shaped as needed. Superior Burl is made from cork, and looks very similar to Natural cork, but is more dense, which makes it much more durable. It offers a good grip wet or dry. The butt cap is a custom shaped Winn Black EVA end cap. The reel seats are Fuji Deluxe Standard Trigger, with a silver hood. The winding check in front of the foregrip is Annodized Aluminum in polished silver, and matches the Metallic Silver wraps on the entire rod. The hook keepers are from American Tackle, and are the Deluxe Large size in chrome. The guides are American Tackle TiForged Air Double Foot in chrome for the entire guide train. These have a lightweight hardened Stainless Steel ring instead of a Ceramic one, which makes them very light weight, and no chance of Ceramic breaking. The Chrome American Tackle RingLock Heavy Duty Tips do have a Nanolite Ceramic Ring. No matter which guide rings you choose to have on your rod, the tips should have a Ceramic Ring. Because it is such a friction point, braided line will eventually wear/cut into the Stainless Steel ring on a tip, but will not cut into a good quality Ceramic one. Some weight was added to the butt end of each rod to really balance them out. A balanced rod that is heavier will feel lighter in hand to a physically lighter unbalanced rod, and will bring less fatigue when casting all day.

Looks like Steelhead fishing is going to have to wait a bit for the water levels to come down below flood stage, and be a little less raging. With the recent warm temps, combined with all of the snow still on the ground, the waterfalls in our area are really flowing. Since Trout season is almost here, let's look at a light rod for Trout, Panfish, Bass, & Walleye. The blank is an American Tackle 6' Matrix 2 pc, and rated for 18 - 1/4 oz lures. Matrix blanks have a factory clear coat over the Carbon Fiber from the butt to tip. They are very cool looking, lightweight, and super strong. The rear grip is made from 2 - 1/2" wide Green Burl Cork rings, with a shaped Winn End Cap made of black EVA. The foregrip and rear grip are both custom turned from Black EVA. The reel seat is a G2 Apex type in Camo Green, with the blank suspended inside the windows. The guides are a set of Chrome American Tackle Microwave Air, that have a super light weight Stainless Steel ring (no Ceramic to weigh it down or break). The Chrome AT S2 Hook Keeper, and Chrome AT Light Duty RingLock Tip with Nanolite Ring both match the guides. All of the thread wraps are done in Voodoo Black that just disappears when rod finish is applied. This rod will be fun to catch fish on.

With the snow melting in my area, the rivers that feed Lake Superior have finally unthawed, and are flowing good. It's time to kick off another fishing season, and the Steelhead are up first. They'll be starting to head into the rivers from Lake Superior any time now with the ice finally gone, and I plan on personally greeting some of them. Good luck to all this season!

This has become a pretty popular Musky rod model. The blank is a 7'11" MHX Bushido 3K X-Heavy for casting 3-10 oz lures, and extended to 9'. The grips are custom made from Superior Burl Cork rings, with a Fuji Deluxe Trigger Casting Reel Seat mounted in between them. Superior Burl Cork offers excellent grip wet or dry, and looks similar to Natural Cork, but is much more durable. The butt cap is a modified Winn EVA End Cap, and the hook keeper is an American Tackle Deluxe Large Chrome. The guides are American Tackle TiForged Air Double Foot, with a matching Chrome American Tackle Heavy Duty RingLock Tip that has a Nanolite ring. The TiForged Air guides have a hardened Stainless Steel ring that will not break like a Ceramic one can. There is an Anodized Aluminum Winding Check in Polished Silver in front of the foregrip, which matches the Metallic Silver thread used for all of the wraps. It's a classic look with modern parts that make it an awesome casting rod for Muskies.
