How do you pronounce "Garand?"

While John C. Garand pronounced his name "GER-end," rhyming with "errand," the millions of GIs who carried and fought with the rifle bearing his name pronounced it "ger-AND." Personally, I prefer the latter pronunciation when referring to the rifle, and the former when talking about the man.

However you pronounce its name, the M1 Garand harkens back to a time when Americans shot fascists instead of electing them. With present-day America reviving so many trends of the time which fully deserved to stay buried in the past, let this old warhorse serve as a reminder that the greatest thing about the Greatest Generation, and the only thing about that time really worth bringing back, is their antifascism.
