Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic Swiss Days. I want to thank all of you who took the time, with all of the distraction of the festivities, to come in and support our little local shoppe.
I would like to address something that surprisingly became an issue this weekend. Let me say, this is in no way to meant chastise or disregard anyone's opinion. Only to clear up any misunderstandings. We had reserved our tables outside for our customers. (in the past, our benches were full and our customers had no where to sit.) Each had a sign stating this and 3 signs are posted on the building. This was not to make anyone feel unwelcomed but to feel included (spend a buck inside, get a vip seat easy peasy). In fact, each local store is given just 10 feet of opening between venders and we gave ours up to allow the chamber to provide covered seating right outside our door. We thought we were taking care of everyone's needs.
As many of you know, Swiss Days is not our best sales week. But we try to make the best of it. I know this is a community event. Now it was stated that I should care more about the community and open up the seating to anyone. (actual quote) I know that there are a few local food venders but the majority are not from here. I LOVE BERNE! I do care. Ask the local merchants if I support their stores. Ask the local churches and community organizations if I donate to their causes. When you support our local established property tax paying businesses your money stays in the community.
I really do stand by my decision to reserve the seating for our customers. After all, I have the best customers ever! Your patronage actually paid for those tables and chairs so...Why shouldn't you get a special space to sit.
I know that everyone comes to Swiss Days for the vendors....and that's ok. Really. We do not mind. My husband and I have been trying to find a good week to take off consistently for vacation each year. Now it is clear. Win. Win. We get our vacation. Locals get to feast on the yummy eats they can get only once a year!
I want everyone to feel welcome in our shoppe. We do care. But we also must stay in business. I want to whole heartedly thank all of you who continue to shop local. You are family as far as I am concerned and we love you!
OHHHHHH. Wait. P.S. All lemonade and Iced Tea is 25% off today! Have the best day ever! Love ya!
