Dear Friends:
I want to alert all of our old friends and patrons to a bookshop that has recently opened on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, Owl and Company (3941 Piedmont Ave). Owl and Company, which opened at the end of 2011, is the newest bookstore venture by Todd Pratum whose periodically issued catalogs of rare esoterica are themselves collectable and whose knowledge of the field is second to none. The new store joins Spectator Books, The Book Zoo and Black Swan on Piedmont Avenue to help create a bit of a book row of dealers in used and rare books in Oakland with all four stores within easy walking distance.
What distinguishes Todd's store from the others, however, and will make it an attractive destination point for our friends, is the extensive selection of esoterica, including a large selection of out-of-print and quite rare tarot decks. Owl and Company, although only a few months open, is very well stocked in literature and the arts, children's books, philosophy, the social sciences, and ....well it's a real bookstore. Todd is well known among his patrons and colleagues for making spectacular book purchases, so do yourself a favor and visit his shop on a regular basis. Open daily from 10 am to 10 pm, you have no excuse, not even Oakland's hungry parking meters (free parking after 6pm with a parking lot nearby), to not visit and find a treasure (among the neighboring bookstores, Spectator and The Book Zoo are also open in the evenings and on Sundays).
I do hope you will find a reason to visit all four stores and have an ice cream at Fentons or a lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants on the avenue. Enjoy!
With Very Best Wishes,
Richard
