One of the biggest shifts happening in home design is a move away from designing for the next buyer and toward designing for the people who actually live there.

More homeowners are thinking long-term—creating spaces that reflect how they live now, what they love, and what would make everyday life better. That means more confidence with color, pattern and personality, but it also means rethinking the purpose of entire rooms.

A guest room that sits empty most of the year? It might work harder as a dressing room, home office, workout space or teen hangout—with flexible sleeping space when guests do visit.
