We're restoring a 100-year-old stone cabin in Candler, NC. We'd like to get it back into the original state as close to possible. Does anyone have a good source for toilet bowls compatible with a 1920's Standard Sanitary tank (see pics). Thanks for your help!

Does anyone know what this brick area is? It has a chimney and gas line. The home has a seperate fireplace as well so figured this isn’t a regular fireplace. Built in 1960. Thank you.

In the process of changing out vanities we came across the corner space that looks to have had something built in, but I don’t know what it would have been. Does anyone with more experience have any ideas? The house was built in 1960. The wall tiles were partially resurfaced prior to us moving in. I am in the process of revitalizing the original floor.

Hello everyone. The first picture is the flooring underneath the carpet on the first floor of a 1908 house. The second picture is flooring upstairs in the bedrooms. Is there any way to tell what kind of wood this is? thanks!

I rarely post, I don't even own an old house. I am staying in an old house in Chicago (Airbnb) and it has these windows. I have never seen any like them and would love to know what the name or style is.

The wall you have pictures is usually in a bathroom, like the wall the shower or tub is on….the vent is to vent the bathroom. The glass blocks provide light while giving privacy

Those appear to be glass block windows with a small vent window. Appropriate for a basement as it deters break-in’s.

As they said glass block windows, they were invented in the 30s or 40s and have roots in art deco. made a comeback in the 80s.

In the 1970s here in Germany almost all houses had their stairwell window made out of glass block. Now people are replacing them with a windowfront. Energetic wise it makes sence. The cold went through in Winter.

Glass blocks. My aunt & uncle had some in the house they built in the 1940's. The ones I remember enjoying most were in an interior wall separating their laundry room and breakfast room. It gave the area more natural light. The breakfast room had a large picture window overlooking their birdfeeder and garden. Although I was still quite young (9-10yo), I was just discovering Japanese art and architecture and thinking their house was much more Japanese than anything I had seen before, the glass blocks
adding to that style in my mind.

Hello 👋 Our brick cape cod was built in 1951 .... I have never been able to figure out what the black thing is above the window.... perhaps someone on here does?
It's above one of the kitchen windows, and the stove was never there that I'm aware....I used to think it was related to an exhaust fan..... any ideas? Thank you!

A contractor is redoing our bathroom, demo crew found termite damage, and some wood rot isolated to a few planks that faces the exterior of the house behind the insulation. Besides replacing the obvious damaged wood, are there any other considerations I should be aware of to make sure that my house remains structurally sound.

We've picked up a project house...my mother in law passed @ 97 years young last year and we inherited her house.
Most of it dates back to the 1600's...it was 3 row-houses she combined into a single home back in the 70's. Located in East Anglia, UK. She added some onto the back...and it is a charming place with lots of character. It used to be thatched when she bought it...wish it still was sometimes...love the look of them, but @ current prices of $1k per 9 sq meters it would cost a fortune to put back.
While we are waiting on the probate to complete...we are starting on some general renovations like cleaning, paint and replacing the 40 year old carpets and some flooring.
I've got a stack of photos to scan of the place during renovation and even found a historic photo from the late 1800's showing the house. When we get back home to the states I'll scan them and post them up.
Edit: LOTS of progress on the house. The new addition is getting closer to being finished, and blowing the back wall out of the old dining room has really opened up the center of the house for a combined kitchen/dining room. Heading back next month to look at the progress in person and meet with the kitchen designer.
The old girl is looking quite stunning...
