Bernie David Anderson lived a remarkable life and left such a significant legacy that it would be impossible to pay proper tribute in so few words, but the mark he left on our community must be acknowledged. For Bernie, no one was a stranger. He, in fact, considered everyone in our community family. There are many non-relatives who have always endearingly referred to him as “Uncle Bernie,” and to everyone around him, he was a paternal figure. He was family. His store has been a landmark in Evans County and surrounding counties for over 60 years and a universal common ground for everyone who lived there. There were even some consistent patrons of Bernie’s that crossed state lines to come in and buy sausage or steak, but in reality, they were just coming in to see him. Bernie was the type of person that could make the darkest days bright and lift anyone’s spirits. Many people remember him for always saying he was “just about perfect” whenever he was asked how he was. This was always truly how he felt. He loved his store, he loved his job, and he loved all of you. He truly was a one-of-a-kind person, and there will never be another like him. From Bernie’s, we thank you all for your constant and continued support of not only the store, but of Bernie as well. You were all such a big part of his life, and he cared for each and every one of you deeply. We’d love for you all to share some of your favorite memories of Bernie in the comments as we continue to celebrate the life and legacy of Bernie Anderson.
