Behind every beautiful cookbook photo… there’s a whole lot happening just outside the frame. 📸

A little light wrangling, a little last-minute styling, and a very close look through the lens as we capture the dishes, details, and unmistakable atmosphere of The Willcox in Aiken, South Carolina.

We love this part of the process—watching months of stories, recipes, research, and planning finally come to life in front of the camera. And sometimes, getting the shot really does take a village.

Not every cookbook photoshoot starts with a mushroom forager. 🍄

This week, while photographing recipes for the upcoming Hyeholde  cookbook, boxes of freshly foraged mushrooms arrived—just as they do for the restaurant.

One more reminder that the best cookbooks aren't just about recipes. They're about the people, the place, and the incredible ingredients that make each dish possible.

One of the best just keeps getting better. ✨

Congratulations to on being named one of Travel + Leisure's Top 10 Inns in the Continental U.S.—an honor that's easy to understand the moment you step through those iconic front doors.

We're especially excited because we've been spending the past several months immersed in the history, recipes, and stories that make this remarkable hotel so special. The manuscript is nearly complete, photography begins next month, and we can't wait to share a few behind-the-scenes glimpses along the way.

Small Town. Big Flavors: Meaningful Recipes and Stories from the "Crossroads of America."

From recipe testing and interviews to styling and photography, it's always exciting to see months of work come to life through the lens.

Featured here: Tea-Smoked Chicken with Blood Oranges, Almonds, and Fresno Chilies—a beautiful example of the bold flavors and thoughtful techniques that will fill the pages of this upcoming book.
