"I am almost 59 years old and have a couple of health issues. As a result, I am semi-retired from the auto repair industry. I was looking for a high-quality scissor lift for my garage, as I now only do general maintenance and repairs. The lift also needed to have a lot of locking positions due to my ceiling being only 8 feet. Multiple locking positions would give me the best option for getting my vehicle up as high as possible without being hindered by unusable space due to the lock gaps being too far apart or the next lock position being too high, causing my vehicle to hit the ceiling. I went back and forth comparing this MR-90XLT and a couple of other brands. I finally decided on the 90XLT and I'm glad I did. Here is my personal review and opinions on this lift. I hope someone finds it useful.
For my needs, the APlusLift SL-MR90XLT is a robust, CE-certified mid-rise scissor lift designed for serious auto DIYers. With a lifting capacity of 9,000 lbs, dual hydraulic cylinders, and an electrical lock release system, this lift combines power, safety, and convenience—especially important for garages with ceiling height constraints like mine. If you're a pretty serious DIYer and comfortable around tools, then getting this lift up and running is easy with the pretty good details in the owner's manual.
Here are some features I really appreciate about this lift. I've tried to break it down for easy reading.
- **Max Lifting Height**: The lift has 8 locking positions, allowing for flexible heights that other lifts don’t offer. This is ideal for underbody access, brake work, detailing, and suspension jobs.
- **Minimum Pad Height**: At just 4 1/2", it provides easy drive-over clearance for sedans and SUVs and features an open center design for mid-body repairs such as exhaust work.
- **Locking Positions**: With 8 incremental stops ranging from 17 1/4" to 39", I have ergonomic flexibility for various tasks.
- **Motor and Compatibility**: It has a 110V single-phase, 1.5HP motor with a 24V control box, which is compatible with standard residential circuits (30A breaker recommended but I've seen it work on 20A), meaning I didn’t have to change any wiring, saving on extra costs.
The lift doesn't come with an electric plug installed so you can plug it into the outlet. Just get a 3-prong plug and wire it up, or you can wire it directly. For 110V here in the US, the colors should be: Brown wire goes to Black (narrow blade) / Blue wire goes to White wire (Wide Blade), / yellow-green goes to Ground (green or bare copper wire). Also, according to the manufacturer, the twin Hydraulic Cylinders on the lift should be underneath and facing the front of the vehicle when a vehicle is on the lift.
- **Setup Time**: The lift reaches its full height in approximately 30 seconds, making it efficient for repeat use.
Working in my 8-foot ceiling garage, the SL-MR90XLT pairs exceptionally well, as its maximum lift height of about 39" allows for ample overhead clearance when working under both my 2018 Ford Escape and my wife's 2002 Ford Ta**us, as well as other vehicles. Unlike full-rise lifts that require 10 to 12-foot ceilings, this mid-rise model avoids ceiling interference while still offering excellent underbody access, especially when used with low-profile creepers or rolling stools.
**Build Quality & Portability**: The construction is rock solid, featuring a heavy steel frame with a powder-coated finish for durability. The lift includes a moving kit with wheels and rubber pads, allowing me to reposition it easily within my garage.
**Hydraulics**: The lift is equipped with dual 3 11/32" cylinders that ensure balanced lifting and long-term reliability. These are beefy and look like a quality cylinder.
**Real-World Optimization**: With my methodical approach to garage planning, this lift integrates seamlessly into my workspace. Considering the pad height, lift range, and vehicle specifications, I can confidently create a workflow chart that maximizes safety and comfort. The platform dimensions (55 15/16" x 20 1/2") and 35 13/16" spacing between platforms accommodate my vehicles without overhang or misalignment.
**Value & Warranty**: The price range of approximately $2,899 to $3,599, depending on the vendor and shipping options, offers great value given what you get. It also comes with a solid warranty, providing 3 years of coverage on structure and hydraulics. If needed, residential lift gate delivery is available for an additional $150. Since I didn’t have a forklift or pallet jack, I rented a pallet jack from Home Depot for $22 for a day so I could get it from the delivery truck up my driveway into my garage. You will need something since the total weight of both crates is around 1,500 pounds. If you have a Commercial establishment delivery is free, and you can also pick up the lift at the shipping terminal. If you need support, you can reach someone by phone or email quickly.
Cons:
This lift doesn't have many cons that other scissor lifts also don't have. Of course, it's very heavy to move around, even with the wheels on, but every other scissor lift on the market is like that. I found the instructions easy but someone else may not. Depending on what vehicle you have, you may need to make some ramps that meet the lift's ramps to soften the sudden steep incline.
Issues And Shipping:
I only had a couple of issues. After I got everything set up and ready, the operation console would not power on after I turned the power control on. This turned out not to be a manufacturing issue but a loose wire. Probably happened during the shipping process from vibration. The second was that I had a tough little battle trying to get the rods that hold the ramps on to go through so I could put the snap ring back on. The front ramp pin mounts were welded about 1/16 inch too high. Doesn't sound like much but it kept the rod from going through. I had to use my Dremel tool and widen it out just a little and grease it. The shipping company was really good and professional. The lift arrived within a week in perfect condition.
In summary, if you have a garage with an 8, 9, or 10-foot ceiling and enjoy doing your own automotive work, the APlusLift SL-MR90XLT is a strategic investment. It balances lifting power, ergonomic access, and safety features without requiring structural modifications. Its compatibility with my workflow and vehicle specs makes it an outstanding choice for my setup. While it was a significant investment, it will greatly assist me with any auto repairs that I do and may even let me do some I couldn't do before because of age and health issues.
