Should You Fix Your Inkjet Printer?
Sometimes yes… but often no.
One of the most common things we see is customers wanting to repair an inkjet printer that hasn’t been used in months.
Here’s the problem:
If an inkjet printer sits too long without printing, the ink can dry inside:
🖨 The printhead
🖨 Ink delivery tubes
🖨 Internal ink system
And once that happens, repairs can quickly cost more than the printer is worth.
A few important things to know:
✔ Inkjet printers work best when used regularly
✔ Printing at least once a week helps prevent clogging
✔ Cheap printers are often designed to be replaced, not repaired
✔ Cleaning cycles can help — but only if the clogging isn’t severe
Sometimes repairing an inkjet printer DOES make sense:
✅ Higher-end business printers
✅ Photo printers
✅ Epson EcoTank / Brother tank systems
✅ Printers with replaceable printheads
But for many low-cost home inkjet printers:
❌ Repair labor + parts can exceed replacement cost
❌ Dried ink damage may not be fully repairable
❌ Multiple cleaning cycles waste expensive ink
In many cases, replacing the printer is the more practical option.
Helpful tip:
If you rarely print, a laser printer is often a MUCH better investment than a cheap inkjet.
