Fenton introduced iridized glass in 1908, making it possible for the middle class to have affordable Tiffany-like glass in their homes. Other manufacturers followed suit and it enjoyed 20 years of popularity. Along the way, it acquired the moniker "Carnival Glass" because it was often given away as prizes in fairs. Fast forward to the 50's when Fenton, Indiana Glass, and others revived it--with a twist. The mid century wares and usually much heavier with less detailed patterns. Although the true antique Carnival is more highly regarded, quality is always the most important factor in value. Stop by Mossy Oaks and see if there's anything Carnival Glass that wants to go home with you.
