It always feels extra special to make something with the inspiration so close by.

I’ve walked past these pickerelweed plants hundreds of times, admiring the way they bloom and fill the ditches with purple flowers and large green leaves. And I finally figured out a way to recreate them using beads…

I’m so happy with how they came out and I know I’ll be wearing them whenever I can, to match the beauty of Mother Nature 💜

I spent the long weekend assembling lots of new beaded earrings 💐

After restocking some supplies I was able to work on weaving together beaded flowers into clusters and adding beaded stems to the tulips. And I made another simple pair of forget-me-nots because I just love the soft shade of blue so much 🩵

Evening art markets are my favorite! It can be tricky to prepare for losing daylight, but I just love the atmosphere of these evening events 🌙

My first time as a vendor for an art / handmade market was for an evening event and I think they’re my favorite! I recently upgraded my table display with an over the table rod, where I hung little rechargeable lanterns and I love how it turned out.

When people see my beadwork they often comment on the time it must take or the patience I must have. Tedious. And yes it takes some time, but my time spent creating is something I look forward to. And something that keeps me calm.

I love being able to focus my mind on one thing - stringing beads - and let the rest of the world fall away.

𝐖𝐄'𝐑𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄! 🌞🎶🌇

Rock the Block Night will remain at its original outdoor location in downtown Lake Charles this evening.

As weather conditions have improved and the threat of severe weather has diminished, the event will now proceed as originally planned outdoors in the 1000 block of Ryan Street.

Tonight’s Rock the Block will feature performances by Infinite Bus, Louisiana Surf Department, and DJ Secret Stache concluding the evening with lighting and special effects for the anticipated return of the After Glow Show.

Attendees can enjoy the full Downtown at Sundown experience featuring food trucks, live music, local art makers, and beverage sales benefitting the Literacy Council from 6:00 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. in downtown Lake Charles.

Following the concert, the official Downtown at Sundown after-party will continue at Panorama Music House beginning at 9:00 p.m. with Dani Lacour.

The City of Lake Charles thanks all our staff, vendors, stage crew, Marshalls, sponsors, and performers for their flexibility and looks forward to kicking off another exciting season of Downtown at Sundown.
