The Empress

Traditionally, this card is all about fertility, growth, rebirth, abundance, connection to the natural world, the divine femini--

but hold on. Many of us are exhausted from all the growth, all the flowering, all the sweat it takes to raise something up from nothing, birthing, nurturing, releasing...because Summer is gasping its last breaths and instead of bright green and abundant, we are withering and falling off the vine.

So let us look instead toward the *other* aspect of The Empress, when she turns from mother to crone, from Persephone to Demeter, to Baba Yaga, Hecate, and Kali. The Harvest. The cutting of the sheaves, the wilting and the dying, the falling onto and into the earth. The scythe in the fields, the gathering and storing.

Because, dammit: we are tired.

As we lean into Autumn, allow yourself deep rest, cool water, cool breezes, cool nights in the darkness with the diamond-like stars. A new chill will settle, will awaken a different energy in you--the falling away, the opening of spaces, the vastness of your heart and spirit. It is much gentler in some ways, less riotous and violent.

Allow the emptying out.

If you are swirling in s**tty memories, regrets, humiliations, wrong moves, and been-there-done-that scenarios...it's time to shut that movie down and get TF out of the theater.

What is done is done. What is gone is gone. Thinking about it will change nothing. Letting it rule your life will change nothing.

It's time to go forward. If you've made a mess, start cleaning it up. If you regret how something ended, make amends and move on. If you miss the good ol' days, start making these days the good ol' ones. Time marches on and so do you, so don't waste it looking back--you're not going that way.

I dunno who this guy is supposed to depict or why the card looks so happy-happy joy-joy because the Five of Pentacles is about having a scarcity mindset and fretting about money.

Oh, right. He's the bum you married and he took all your money and you had to return home like a schmuck on a Greyhound bus paid for by your parents via Western Union. Or maybe that's just me.

ANYway--you've gotta turn THIS card upside down and find your financial blessings in this mess. Look at what you DO have, not what you THINK you need. Or want. If you have even half a sandwich to stick in your mouth at lunch as opposed to a stale Werther's you dug out of the back of a desk drawer, you're blessed.
