Fun Fact(s) Friday:

Watermelons have been cultivated in Egypt for more than 5,000 years. Egyptians depicted watermelon in drawings on the walls of tombs and even left watermelon with their dead to nourish them as they journeyed through the underworld.

Watermelons spread from Africa to China in the 10th century. Today, China grows more watermelon than any other country. In China, guests offer watermelons as gifts to a hostess.

Try It Tuesday: I don't know about the weather in your neck of the woods, but it's been overly hot here in the Northwest. After reading a book about the weather yesterday, my son and I enjoyed a fun experiment about what melts in the sun. I'll attach the link in the comments. We enjoyed it, and I hope you do too! If you try it out, please share which objects you chose and what the kids in your life thought of the activity. Thanks.

Wacky Word Wednesday: Borborygmus - a rumbling or gurgling noise in the intestines

Literally just a fun way to say “I’m hungry and my stomach is letting you know. Feed me or I may eat you.”

Try it Tuesday - Shark Week Edition: In addition to reading one of these great Usborne books about sharks, try building a shark’s home in a jar. With this experiment (see the comment section for the link) you can see all the different layers that comprise the ocean. Humans typically experience the sunlight layer. Now you can see what lies underneath. Do you know which zone sharks live in? Of course, my son and I will try to this activity, but we also plan on eating a watermelon shark and dancing to Baby Shark!
