Friends, Ted has just launched his first attempt at the MR150. He's in the touring/recreational division, so his distance is about 140 miles of the Mississippi. He has until 5 pm CST on Sunday to finish at Mississippi Point Park.

Chris is right. Footloose and fancy free for a couple weeks. Currently departing ORD for ABQ and two weeks backpacking in the mountains. I'll be glad to be out of airplanes and cars, and off pavement, at the end of this long travel day.

First day of (temporary) unemployment. Ted bid farewell to TNC after 14 great years. The next vocational adventure starts October 1st. What to do in between? Trek! This time the orange shirt heads to the San Juans in southern Colorado. Prayers always welcome. Watch this space.

As Chris's post noted she dropped me off last night at Split Rock to hike the last segment of the Superior Hiking Trail. I walked in 3 miles and camped at Blueberry Hill campsite. I carried in no water, and Blueberry Creek is dry, so no breakfast just yet. Not to worry. 2 miles down today's trail lies 10% of the world's freshwater and the trail's namesake. I think I'll be fine.

Earlier it was raining but there were no clouds. It was so humid, and the air so cool, that the water would continually precipitate out onto the leaves. Then the breeze would push the droplets from the leaves making rain. And this would cycle over and over again. No clouds but still raining.

June 5:

Friday turned into a long march. (Though Thursday was not trivial at 18 miles.) We stashed a bunch of pack weight (tents, sleeping bags, pads, stove, battery, etc) at a road intersection so we could fast hike it to the border. And fast hike it we did. 22+ miles and at about 7:30 there was Canada.
Couldn't have done it without Mattie's company and support. Or without my extraordinary friend Russ Reinbold who drove to Canada from Plymouth to meet us and bring me home.
Later today I reconnect with Chris. Can't wait.

A final bit of business before Mattie Turner, soon to be a member of our family via our Eliot, and I begin the last 50 miles to the Canada border. A small but mighty group of staff and volunteers from the Superior Hiking Trail Association labor hard and honestly to keep this trail open, safe, and as wonderful as it is. It would warm my heart if you'd consider making a contribution to their work, particularly if you've enjoyed following along on my adventure. They certainly could use some dollars to help keep tires on their trucks, gloves on their hands, planks on those boggy parts, and bridges over those beautiful ravines. Here's their site, and thanks for what you can do. https://superiorhiking.org/
