I didn’t take enough photos today. But I am blown away by the talent, not only who did the steamroller prints and they were crazy good, but… the Southwest Print Fiesta market omg. I have honestly never been among such talent. More high caliber printmaking than I’ve ever seen in one place. Wow wow. This fiesta is blowing my mind 💥

Can’t wait to hear the artist talk tomorrow by Kalli Arte Collective their show at Light Art Space is breathtaking. I am so inspired 🖤🤍

Super fun workshop today! Thanks to Southwest Print Fiesta for having me come out to teach! Thanks to the talented and intuitive participants who made some really awesome one-of-a-kind letterpress ornaments. We printed and die cut and experimented along the way. Linoleum was carved and we got to print some amazing old image cuts from Silver City. Printing is always magic! 💥 thanks to Alex Gonzales for being my right hand today. Meant to get a pic of all of us but guess we were having too much fun! Always delightful to be in the Power and Light Press ⚡️ printshop!

The fiesta continues tomorrow with steamroller printing, a market, and more and more!

I heard myself call this press my “old faithful”. I guess it is. First time printing on the windmill in the new space. It felt good. Even when I had to skip feed. It printed awesome 💞

Thx Robert for the video!

Next week! I’ll be in beautiful New Mexico for the awesome Southwest Print Fiesta fiesta and I’m teaching a workshop on Friday 10/9. I’ve always wanted to go and this is the year! Come join us!

3D letterpress ornaments—> In this fast-paced, hands-on workshop, students will explore printing patterns and found images with multi-color inks on a proof press. These prints will then be taken to the C&P platen press, where you’ll die cut the pop-out ornament. During the process, you’ll learn the basics of setting up, printing on a proof press, and die cutting on a platen press. No experience necessary. Honestly, you can just come and print some fun one-of-a-kind ornaments!

We’ll carve linoleum and/or use found image blocks and patterned polymer plates to print, die cut the ornaments, and then fold and glue. 5 sided diamond shaped ornaments.

Can’t wait! See you in Silver City!

Our most beloved large notebooks are retiring. For over 16 years, this size of our handmade notebook series has been a best seller and we’ve loved it. I’m actually sad to take away the hours of gluing the covers to the textblock. Thousands and thousands of hours.

We’re working on a new size, something between the large and XLarge notebooks. We’ll bring the best seller designs (large & XL) to the new size. If you have a favorite please let us know. The new version will have a sewn stitched binding so it will open flat. Way better for sketching etc.

Stock limited and when they’re gone they’re gone. Very soon, this size will not be available for custom notebooks.

End of a special era. I really love the way the large notebooks look. And I have used many through the years. But onward!

More on the move: we made it to WNC and so did the 18 wheeler. It was parked down by the Toe River (because it can’t get up our driveway). And it took 7 trailer loads to get everything up here. But the printshop made it! Here’s some shots of things getting moved around. Thanks to Dave’s bro and nephews for the extra muscle. We needed it and they were unstoppable. Christopher Payne was here for a day before our christina penland workshop and he helped put the bins of product in place.

It’s been over a month now and we’re settling in. Blackbird is open for business. Finding a few new staff members. And looking forward to what’s next. With mornings in the 60s, well… that’s a big plus.

Dave’s bro said he wished he had gotten a pic of my face as I videoed the Vandercook being moved in the air, and what felt like, over the river, 😬😬😬😅 but it is in place. Hoping to print on it soon.
