What is a bike box and how does it work?

A bike box is a place for bicyclists to wait during red lights at intersections. The painted green are typically in between the white stopping lines for vehicles and pedestrian crosswalks. They allow bicyclists to get a head start on vehicles when the light turns green so they can safely move to the right side of the road.
