The dream is still alive.....let me explain......

A couple of years back, some of you may know that daughter Katie and I started translating some of my work to rug hooking patterns. Things changed, Katies schedule changed and we took a pause. It has always been my hope to pick it back up and get things going again, but there just are not enough hours in the day sometime! That being said, recently, I decided to set a few things aside, (like house cleaning and cooking) and work on some new patterns for an upcoming event. I am re-inspired! I am going to keep trying to develop the pattern line, at least for rug hooking for now. But knowing the way things go....and until things can be more formal and regular, I am going to call them "On a Whims".... when I have some available..... on a whim...I will let everyone know. This reimagining of Adeline Sheep is my favorite so far. She started out as a Paper Mache character piece, who then was translated into a wall art piece and now the rug pattern. I cannot wait to hook her up!

On today's work table! Sheep! Lots of Sheep! For "The Gathering"

If you are not familiar with "The Gathering" it is a fantastic event held every year at my Sis and Mom's place, The Old Tattered Flag in upstate NY. This year is the 10th Annual (with a little pause for Covid of course). It is a ticketed event for 175 lucky people. They are treated to a day of hooking, stitching, shopping, a delicious luncheon always with a show stopper dessert, giveaways and commaraderie. I really look forward to it every year. Will I see you there?

Dear Uncle Sam,.....

I cannot pretend that so many, right now, are not struggling with feelings of patriotism and pride. I cannot pretend that so many things that used to symbolize our pride have not been tainted. I cannot pretend that I have not struggled in my art and representations of many things relating to that pride of late. Sam is one of those iconic representations. I did a little homework and digging to understand better what he symbolizes. What I think I have come to is....as with so many things, his meaning and representation take many forms. For some he is government, military, power or authority. For some patriotism and recruitment. But, the meaning that spoke the most to me, is civic duty, and a call to action to defend the country and its people. All of its people..... from all threats. With that framing in mind I can still create some Uncle Sam pieces of art. With that representation he can still be proudly displayed in my home.
