Made this one for a family member who lost their best friend. 🐾🖤

Heart shaped slate memorial — photo and text engraved with everything that needed to be said. Slate is one of those materials that just holds the emotion of a piece like this in a way nothing else does.

Sharing this one because large format photo engraving on black granite is something a lot of people ask about. 🖤

This was a 30x24 headstone with the photo running about 14 inches tall. Nothing fancy — just a cell phone gallery app for editing, LightBurn, Jarvis and the AP 2816. 📱

235 DPI / 220 Speed / 18% Power
Some people say you can't get good results on black granite using poster board as a test — but it's my go-to. I'm not saying it's the best way or that it'll work for everybody, but a lot of the time it works for me. 💪

Every machine and every photo will need its own settings — these are just what worked for this one.

A lot of people debate whether black poster board is worth using before moving to granite — for me it gets me in the ballpark every time. Look at the license plate detail on the poster board test and then find it on the finished headstone. 🔍

I wasn't expecting that level of detail to survive the grain of the black granite — but sometimes you get lucky. 🔥

Every now and then you run into a learning curve. 😄

Black powder coated 30oz tumbler — photo engraved on a curve and yeah it took a minute to figure out but we got there. 🔥

Photo edited using a cell phone gallery app then into LightBurn using Jarvis. 30w fiber laser / 300mm lens / 1700mm/s — power varied per pass. Multiple passes were used to pull as much detail out of the image as possible — one pass would have gotten us there but more passes meant more detail. 📱

Black poster board isn't just for granite and slate photo testing — I use it for powder coated tumblers too. 💪

Settings and editing will vary from photo to photo and material to material.
