Holmes Hydration exists to continue Black history the way it has always lived—through practice, not performance.

Rooted in returning everyday healing knowledge back to the people it came from, Holmes Hydration centers care, access, and cultural memory without elitism or gatekeeping. The work honors Black history by making wellness practical, honest, and woven into daily life, never separated from its origins.

Through each offering, Holmes Hydration reminds us that healing has always been part of Black culture, carried forward through intention, community, and use.

In celebration of Black History Month, we’re spotlighting Urban Roots Company and the Black legacies that continue to shape her work.

Inspired by Anne Spencer, Harlem Renaissance poet, gardener, and visionary, Urban Roots Company honors the garden as a place of intention, sanctuary, and power. Anne Spencer’s home landscape was more than a garden; it was a living expression of Black womanhood, creativity, and resistance, cultivated with care and purpose.

That same spirit guides Urban Roots Company today, creating offerings that invite joy, self-expression, and meaningful connection, to the land, to ourselves, and to one another.

Royal Embellishments is rooted in excellence, purpose, and legacy.

Inspired by Thurgood Marshall, the maker behind Royal Embellishments draws from his lifelong commitment to justice, integrity, and impact. As a former attorney, that influence carries across every part of her work—whether advising nonprofits, teaching, crafting jewelry, or embellishing garments, with the same dedication to care, precision, and service.

Through Royal Embellishments, creativity becomes a way to honor Justice Marshall’s legacy while building one of her own, setting a standard of excellence and creating work that uplifts those who come next.

Girl in Space Club is redefining who gets to be seen as a maker, a builder, and a visionary.

Founded by a Black woman engineer whose career at NASA placed Black excellence at the highest levels of technical rigor, from designing orbits to shaping systems that operate in outer space, Girl in Space Club carries that legacy forward on Earth. The brand makes innovation visible and culturally alive, showing that engineering can look like art, science can live in fashion, and creativity never has to be separated from culture.

Rooted in imagination, intellect, and representation, Girl in Space Club reminds us that Black creativity itself is powerful technology.

All month, Made in Baltimore is spotlighting Black-owned business members by honoring the Black voices and historical figures that influence our work.

This week we're featuring Five O' Clock Co, inspired by Dr. Nathaniel H. Bronner, Sr. and Arthur E. Bronner, Sr., founders of Bronner Brothers. They built more than a brand they built legacy. Their commitment to education, economic empowerment, quality, and cultural pride created a blueprint for what generational ownership can look like.

Five O’ Clock Co. is rooted in that same spirit serving our community, honoring the craft, and creating opportunity through entrepreneurship.

This month, Made in Baltimore is spotlighting Black-owned business members by honoring the Black voices and historical figures that influence their work.

For New Vintage by Sam, inspiration lies in the tension between the old and the new, drawing from the bold truth-telling of James Baldwin, the soft yet sharp wisdom of Maya Angelou, and the radically honest, community-centered voice of Amanda Seales.

Each of these figures showed what it means to evolve out loud: refusing to shrink, extending grace to themselves, and meeting their moment with clarity, courage, and care. That unapologetic energy, rooted in truth, growth, and self-expression, shapes both Sam’s creative practice and perspective.

✨ Shop Black-owned, support local storytellers, and experience New Vintage by Sam at the MIB Store this month.
