📌 Following his massive TSLA stock selloff late last year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk still held a 21.2% stake in the company by the end of 2021. This was according to a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

With a 21.2% stake in Tesla by the end of 2021, Musk effectively held 231,715,206 shares in the company. At Monday’s closing price of $875.76 a share, Musk’s 21.2% stake would be worth about $202 billion. It should be noted that this does not represent Musk’s biggest stake yet in Tesla, as a similar filing from a year ago revealed that the CEO held a 22.4% stake in the company by the end of 2020.

Musk’s recent SEC filing came not long after it was revealed that the CEO had donated over 5 million TSLA shares to an undisclosed charity last year. The Tesla CEO started donating the TSLA shares on November 19, 2021, which happens to be just a few days after United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP) Chief David Beasley provided a comprehensive explanation for the organization’s plans to fight the hunger crisis.

Back in November 2021, Musk initiated a stock-selling spree following a poll on Twitter that asked users of the social media platform if he should sell about 10% of his stake in the EV maker. Reports indicated that Musk had sold 15.7 million TSLA shares by the end of December, which was nearly equal to the 10% stake that the CEO had planned to sell. Despite this, Musk was ultimately still able to boost his TSLA stake by exercising stock options to purchase more shares at $6.24 each, a fraction of what they’re trading for today.

Musk noted back in December that he would be paying about $11 billion in taxes due to his TSLA selloff. This effectively made Musk’s 2021 tax bill one of the largest in the United States’ history, translating to about $1 million in taxes per day since Musk came over to the country to study business and physics at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 or about $1.5 million per day since the CEO became a US citizen in 2002.

📌 Considering Omicron moves differently from the other COVID variants, one of the worrying factors is that the patients infected with it are showing varied symptoms which are distinct from each other. Though many patients are complaining of mild cold-like symptoms, several others are experiencing more severe signs. The World Health Organisation (WHO), and studies conducted by other organisations explain symptoms and the reasons behind them.

WHO's top infectious disease expert Dr Maria Van Kerkhove has said that people who are infected with Omicron can have a range of symptoms. They can also have no symptoms at all, and be completely asymptomatic. Some even can develop severe diseases and people are also dying from Omicron.

“On average, we know that there is lesser risk of needing hospitalisation if you are infected with Omicron compared to Delta, but that does not mean that it is a mild disease," he added during a Live Q&A session on COVID-19 and Omicron sub-variant BA.2 with Dr Abdi Mahamud on 8 February 2022.

During another discussion on the effects of Omicron and why it should not be taken lightly, Dr Maria Van Kerkhove said the more concerning thing with the Omicron-led wave has been that deaths are increasing for 5th week in a row. “Half a people, that we know of, have died (due to Covid," he said, adding that deaths must be more than that cause the global health bodies don't have adequate reporting systems around the world.

📌 Wondering when those onions will be back in stock at the grocery store? Many people had to change their dinner plans Wednesday as grocery store shelves were slim pickings.

As a significant icing event is set to impact Central Texas overnight Wednesday into Thursday with bitter cold temperatures, Central Texans flocked to the grocery stores.

“We were supposed to have tortellini soup. There’s no sausage, no celery… found some mushrooms. We pivoted,” said Corbin Fields.

Central Texas grocery stores don’t plan to have truck drivers on the roads Thursday but said they’re prepared to get through the storm with enough supply on hand.

“We backed up deliveries to get more product into stores both Tuesday and Wednesday, so that we could have the product for purchase, and so that we could avoid making deliveries on Thursday,” said Christy Lara, director of public relations for Randalls.

At Randalls, all e-commerce services have been canceled for Thursday, meaning you won’t be able to purchase your groceries through a delivery service like Shipt. The stores will also open two hours later in Central Texas.

“We’re already working on the other side of the storm as well to get more deliveries on Friday and Saturday,” said Lara. “We’ve opened up receiving for our stores on Sunday — that’s typically not a day when we would receive product.”

Grocery stores and their customers are hopeful three-hour lines won’t happen this time around.

“I actually made a bet with my buddy last year to see how long it would take to get in and out,” said Fields. “I ended up winning by three hours and 30 minutes. I won $10.”

Randalls shutdown its delivery services for Thursday, which include delivery, drive up and go services. They haven’t made a decision for Friday yet.
