Hello everyone, it’s EJ 💜

Motherhood and building Purple Rice have grown together for me in so many ways.
My daughter, Ellie has always been such a foodie and truly loves food, and feeding her became one of my love languages as a mom. Through food, I learned how to share comfort, care, and love in the simplest way.

As Ellie has grown up, it’s been so special watching her become part of Purple Rice too — helping as our little photographer, making Instagram reels, working in the kitchen, and cheering me on every step of the way. She always says she hopes our customers can create happy memories through our food, just like she did growing up.

Mother’s Day has always been one of the busiest weekends in the restaurant world, so it was often hard for me to celebrate it personally. While many families were gathering together, I was usually in the kitchen cooking for moms and loved ones celebrating the day. But through all those years, Ellie has always been proud of me, and that means everything to me.

For our Mother’s Day gift meal boxes, I prepared each one with love, care, and gratitude. I hope you can enjoy our food with your loved ones and make this day feel a little more special together.

My mom is in every part of this story.
From Korea to where I am today, so much of who I am comes from her—
the quiet way she showed love through food, through care, always asking,
“Did you eat?”

Growing up, I didn’t think much of those meals.
Now, living far from her, I realize those were the moments that mattered most.
We don’t get to share the same table often anymore,
with so much distance between Seoul and Austin.
That’s something I carry with me every day.

I’ve spent over 20 years in the restaurant industry, cooking for others—
but deep down, I always wanted to make something just for her.
So this year, I did.
This Mother’s Day meal box is inspired by my mom—
by the meals she made, the love she gave,
and all the moments I wish we could still share at the same table.
It’s something I made with her in mind.
