Comic of the Day

1975 Tiger-Man #3 (Atlas Comics)

"Tiger-Man" is a comic book series published by Atlas Comics, which was part of the short-lived Atlas/Seaboard period during the mid-1970s. The series debuted in 1975 and is part of a wave of new superhero creations that Atlas attempted to establish to compete with larger publishers like Marvel and DC Comics.

The character of Tiger-Man is Dr. Lancaster Hill, a scientist who, while working in Africa, is attacked by a tiger. He manages to kill the tiger but not before it inflicts serious wounds. Through a series of experimental treatments involving tiger DNA, Hill gains superhuman abilities such as enhanced senses, strength, agility, and the ferocity of a tiger. He adopts the persona of Tiger-Man and uses his new powers to fight crime.

The series is noted for its attempt to blend the traditional superhero narrative with elements of horror and the then-popular trend of animal-themed characters. Despite its unique premise, "Tiger-Man" was short-lived, lasting only three issues. The character and the series are remembered as part of the broader historical context of 1970s comic books and the rise and fall of Atlas Comics during that era.
