Centrally located between downtown and North Austin, the Lo-Burn IBIZ District hosts a myriad of fun and exciting experiences. Lo-Burn is the “lower” part of Burnet Road, which begins at 45th Street and the district runs to North Loop Blvd. The mix of architecture, from the 1930’s to the present, represents the unique blend of old and new locally owned businesses. -made, thrift, vintage, secondhand, consignment, resale, antique, and collectible shops, shopping is just one fun way to spend the day. You can also feel good about your retail therapy as many of the areas thrift shops support Austin non-profits. Special finds in the district include licensed UT gear, vintage goods, handmade pottery and new and gently used clothing. This popular Central Austin strip isn’t just about shopping; it includes contemporary fine dining, ethnic food, and unfussy establishments catering to families and folks for everyday eats. In addition to dining and shopping, the district is spotted with many great services. It is full of traditional and alternative health and medicinal practices. From doctors to masseuses, to personal training to beauticians, one can get a massage, a tattoo, a haircut and glasses all within a few blocks. Oh and FYI, it’s pronounced “Burn-it” if y’all are local and “Burn-ette” if you’re not from ’round these parts. There is a concentration of home furnishings stores of all types from beautiful English antiques at Gypsies to used goods at Top Drawer and Assistance League. For variety, Austinites can eat breakfast at the Omeletry, a Burnet Road fixture for several decades, work out at one of several gyms, get great MCM goodies at Get Back Vintage, eat lunch at Torchy’s, buy amazing clothes and shoes at Spring Frost, find a 1960s teak credenza at Uptown Modern, then eat dinner at Blue Star Cafe.
