After our time in Portugal, we went on to Scotland, another beautiful country! While visiting the town of Falkland in the highlands, I saw a sign in the window of a very old building reading "Violin Shop". I was curious, and went in to check it out. The owner, Bob Beveridge, introduced himself and showed me around his shop. As we were talking about luthier work, he pulled out a guitar and started singing a song. The guitar was signed by Rosanne Cash, and I asked how it came about for him to have it. He said he had become friends with Johnny Cash when he and Andy Williams came to Scotland in 1981 to film a Christmas special for TV. Johnny had heard the Cash family had roots in Scotland and Bob told him that, yes, the Cash clan was from that area of Fife. Years later, after Johnny’s passing, Rosanne came to Scotland and also met with Bob. They became friends, and have stayed in touch ever since. Bob pulled out a stack of letters from Rosanne he’d received over the years, and had many interesting stories to tell! I'll include a video of him talking about meeting Rosanne. Thank you, Bob, for your time and graciousness. It's a small world, and you never know who you'll meet in a random small town!
