Goofus glass could be considered a big April Fool's Day joke!! It is clear glass with gold and red floral designs painted on it after fired and is cold pressed, meaning that the paint is not set into the glass. Highly used as promotional gifts and marketed as being highly desirable, people even signed up and ordered their "spectacular" plates and bowls. When people saw their "treasures", they saw the poor quality and exclaimed "they goofed us" (aka fooled us) into thinking they were getting highly collectible items. Being cold fired, it is common for goofus glass to have peeled off paint, some even purposely peeled it to have just clear class items.
Because of all the hype of the glass, and the duration they've had, nearing 100 years, Goofus glass has gained some collectible notoriety It is common for there to be paint loss which is not necessarily a detriment to the collectibility. Take a look at a couple of pieces that Found Treasure Chest has available for you to collect.
