Over the years, we’ve shared laughter, stories, and milestones with you — and we couldn’t be more grateful for the community that has grown around this little shop.

When we closed our Naperville storefront this summer, it wasn’t the end of our story — it was the beginning of a new chapter. Behind the scenes, we’ve been dreaming and building, and now we are so excited to invite you along for what’s next.

The early hours of the morning on July 25, my beloved Mom—known to my daughters as Eba—passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

That same morning, we opened the doors of our brick-and-mortar store for the very last time. Somehow, the timing felt sacred. My mom has been part of Occasions from the very beginning—quietly, steadily, and wholeheartedly.

She did our books. She worked the register before Josie was born. She packed U-Hauls full of Nora Fleming, helped haul bins out of the storage unit, and made Christmas setups happen year after year.

And when I became a mom, she stepped in again—watching Josie full-time so I could pour myself into the store without carrying the weight of childcare costs. She gave me the gift of being able to grow a business while knowing my baby was in the best, most loving hands.

Occasions simply wouldn’t have been possible without her.

We’ll be celebrating her life with services in both Illinois and Wisconsin:

Today we close the doors to our brick-and-mortar shop for the very last time.

Since 2007, Occasions has been more than a store — it’s been a community, a gathering place, and a labor of love. I want to extend my deepest thanks to each and every customer who walked through our doors over the years. Your support, stories, and smiles have meant more than you’ll ever know.

To Donna Smith, the founder of Occasions and my mentor — thank you for giving me the foundation and inspiration to continue your vision. Everything I know about this business started with you.

To every staff member who has worked alongside me over the years — thank you for showing up with kindness, for sticking with me through life’s highs and lows, and for all the laughter (and occasional tears) we’ve shared along the way.

To my friends and family — your unwavering support made this possible. And to Mr. Occasions — thank you for every sleepless night you endured, every 3 a.m. brainstorm, and every ounce of encouragement you’ve given me.

While we’re saying goodbye to our physical location, this isn’t the end — just a new beginning. We’re evolving into Occasions Gift Co., and we’ll be launching our brand new website this September. I can’t wait to continue curating beautiful gifts and special moments with you — now, from the comfort of your own home.

Dear friends,

After many wonderful years in our Naperville storefront, I want to share some bittersweet news.

Due to the ever-changing retail climate, Occasions will be transitioning to an online-only boutique, now known as Occasions Gift Co.

It has truly been a pleasure to be part of this community in-person — to help you celebrate birthdays, new babies, teacher appreciation, weddings, and all the “just because” moments that make life sweet.

While I’ll miss the everyday magic of shop life, I’m also looking forward to spending more time with my own shop girls — my daughters Josie and Maggie — and continuing to serve you in new ways.

Our website will still be open 24/7 with local pickup, local delivery, and nationwide shipping, so your favorite gifts can still find their way to you (and your friends and family!) no matter where you are.

Our final day in the shop will be Friday, July 25 closing at 3pm. We would love to see your smiling faces in person one last time before we close our (physical) doors!

Don’t worry, all gift cards and loyalty points will continue to be honored on our website moving forward.

I can’t thank you enough for supporting this small business and being part of its story. This is not goodbye — just a new chapter — and I’m so excited to continue curating beautiful, thoughtful gifts for you through Occasions Gift Co. online.
