After five and a half meaningful years, I’ve made the difficult decision to close Reuse Refuge, with our final day planned for mid-May.

This shop has been one of the greatest joys of my life. What started as a hopeful idea became a place filled with conversations, creativity, and community. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has walked through the doors, supported us, and believed in what we were trying to build. Together, we diverted many materials from landfill, kept our local environment cleaner, cared for the health of our families and our homes with more confidence & kept usable materials in circulation.

Like many small business owners, the last several years have brought challenges that aren’t always visible from the outside. After a lot of reflection and many hard conversations with my family, I’ve realized that the best decision for us right now is to step away and focus on rebuilding stability for our household and putting my time and skills toward providing for my family in a more sustainable way.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. I care deeply about our downtown and the people working hard every day to keep it vibrant and hopeful. I truly believe in the importance of small, local businesses and the role they play in shaping a community.

If there’s one thing I hope comes from this transition, it’s a reminder of how important it is to support the businesses we want to keep around. When you shop local, share a kind word, bring a friend, or simply show up, it makes a real difference.

We will remain open through May 16th, and I would love to see as many of you as possible before we close our doors. Thank you for five and a half years of support, kindness, and memories. This community has meant more to me than I can ever fully express.

With gratitude,
Lucy Janssen
