Due to the cold snap, we pulled the honey off the front porch. We are running pretty low, but I do have some in the house and we have more in frames that need to be processed. Let us know if you need something and we will work to get it to you. 🍯🍯🍯🍯

This morning I was able to add some honeybees to the pollinator garden at Moog Space Actuation & Avionics building. It is a 7 frame hive that consists of 2 deep boxes for the bees 🐝 and medium box for honey production. The bees are doing orientation flights now to get established to their new home and they should bee established in a few days.

I think they will love it there and will give me an opportunity to help our team learn more about our honey producing friends. There is currently plenty of clover for them to gather nectar and I have also begun to see Canadian Thistle and some Japanese Knotweed starting to bloom. I hope the Space Actuation & Avionics team enjoys our new friends.

We have caught 3 swarms in 3 weeks off this same tree. Take one down and put up a new box. Within 2 days it’s full again!! The bees love this location.

It was an active day in the bee yard today. I picked up a box at my buddy Bill’s house last night and put that in a hive box and also pulled down the swarm box off my bee tree and put that in a small hive box worh some help. Bonus for me was that my nephew, Ethan, came over to give me a hand. It was awesome watching him get right into it!!

Yesterday we finished the installation of a live honeybee display at GCVM. The discussion started a few years ago with the staff at the Nature Center After a few years of planning and a great construction project there is a greatly improved center, including a hive for people to observe.
Adam, GVCM Staff, joined in the fun and even identified the queen when we were doing the transfer to their new home. There were a group of children watching from the windows and one of the mom’s even suited up and took some videos. Melanie, one of the volunteers and beekeeper herself, was also on hand adding assistance and taking some of these great pictures.

This is great opportunity to get out for a day of fun at the village and visit to the newly remodeled Nature Center. You won’t regret it and may find out what a true gem we have in this Live Musuem. As a long member, I say go see what all the buzz 🐝 is about!

This winter was pretty rough on our hives with high losses. Not to worry though, we are already catching new swarms and have plenty of honey 🍯 in the honey box on our front porch. We processed some a few weeks ago and we have cups 8 oz at $8, pints 26 oz at $15 and of course quarts 32 oz at $25 for your honey eating pleasure.

Look up! Instead of focusing on the ground, gaze up into the trees for a delightful surprise. This swarm is located about 50 feet up in an old cherry tree. I hope it moves into my box, situated about 200 yards away.
