Today, I’d like to share something I’m quite proud of. As a custom piccolo maker, I travel to my wood suppliers whenever possible to hand-select each piece of wood. This not only allows complete control over my inventory but also means I found something inspiring in the beauty of each piece of wood. That means I have thought your instrument was already beautiful LONG BEFORE production began.
As you can see, I label every piece with the month/year it was purchased, and most pieces age 5-10 years before I take them off the shelf.
When I begin processing them, I sort them by color and quality. The best pieces become bodies, with high color saturation, and nearly perfect grain. The next grade, good color, and beautiful grain become headjoints. Areas cut off from those pieces, or beautiful pieces with diagonal grain become crowns, tenon caps or blocks in custom cases.
Pettry Piccolo headjoints are now available for independent trial and purchase for third-party instruments. Inquire about your trial today!
