Hey y’all, I’m James Carr, founder of Farmers Jam. I’ve spent years working with small scale, sustainable farmers, which led me on the path to starting Farmers Jam.
A UGA graduate, I began my career as a sports journalist in Atlanta but became passionate about local food and sustainability. I switched careers to focus on farming through nonprofits, local governments, food events, and more.
During a brainstorming session for the Georgia Organics Conference in 2015, my friend Tenisio Seanima realized how many farmers played instruments (fun fact: Tenisio is a farmer and a DJ).
When I chimed in with a few farmers I knew who played in bands, Tenisio said the magic words, “We should host a Farmers Jam!”
This sentence changed my life.
Although it didn’t fit the conference, I couldn’t let go of the idea. In 2018, Farmers Jam was born with a concert at Star Bar in Little 5 Points.
What began as a jam band of local farmers turned into a jam making business, then a cocktail syrup business… and who knows what we’ll do next?! Whatever we do, it'll be focused on food and farming.
Around Atlanta, you’ll find me at the farmers market, eating at some of my favorite restaurants like Poor Hendrix or El Tesoro, and supporting Leeds United at Fado in Buckhead or Manny’s in Grant Park.
Otherwise, I’m usually kicking it with my wife and daughter, grilling out, or pre-batching some cocktails for a house party.
Go Dawgs and Jam On!!!
