Pupils are the window to the brain🧠
And if you don't know what you're looking for, you could miss a LIFE-THREATENING emergency.

PERRLA isn't just a checkbox on your assessment form - it's your early warning system for:
⚠️ Increased ICP
⚠️ Stroke
⚠️ Herniation
⚠️ Drug toxicity
⚠️ CN III damage

Let me break down what separates "checking the box" from actually ASSESSING:
✅ NORMAL = PERRLA
Both pupils 2-6mm, equal size, brisk constriction to light, smooth symmetric response
🚨 EMERGENCY SIGNS:
• Blown pupil (fixed, dilated >6mm, non-reactive)
• Pinpoint pupils 1mm difference (anisocoria)
If you see these? NOTIFY MD IMMEDIATELY.

This shows up in:
→ Neuro checks q15min-q4hr
→ Post-op assessments
→ Trauma patients
→ NCLEX priority questions

Nursing school is HARD.
But so are you.

Stress is real—but so is your strength.
Handle what you can, nap when you need, and always come back swinging.
That’s how you last in this game 🥊✨

Your patient might be drowning from the inside 😳
That's what my instructor told me when I missed the early signs of fluid overload during clinical.

Fluid overload isn't just "some swelling" - it's something that can lead to pulmonary edema, respiratory distress, and more

And here's the scary part: it develops FAST in high-risk patients (heart failure, renal failure, post-op, elderly).

🫁 CHECK RESPIRATORY FIRST:
• Crackles (especially bibasilar)
• Dyspnea, orthopnea, tachypnea
• Pink frothy sputum = CRITICAL

Your priority nursing actions could save your patient's life:
→ Stop IV fluids
→ Elevate HOB
→ Frequent lung sounds
→ Apply O₂ if needed
→ NOTIFY PROVIDER

This is the assessment knowledge that separates students who freeze from students who act with confidence.

That nurse you look up to?

She doubted herself too.

She cried over test grades.

She overthought every clinical decision.

But she kept going.
And look at her now.
Keep pushing. The nurse you’re becoming is already proud of you 🩺🔥

🚨 ELECTROLYTE EMERGENCY 🚨

SIADH + headache 🤕 + muscle cramps ⚡

Sodium = 125 🧠
This is not a “do something helpful” question.

It’s a what must happen immediately question ⏳
NCLEX loves testing when to escalate care vs when to intervene on your own 👀

Nursing school already asks enough of you.
Your study tools shouldn’t add to the stress.

That’s why the Student Nurse Tool Kit is completely FREE.

No gatekeeping.
No “figure it out yourself.”

Just:
✔ study guides
✔ NCLEX-style breakdowns
✔ planners + templates
✔ checklists to keep you organized and grounded

Because confidence shouldn’t be something you have to earn later.
You deserve support now.

You’re not overwhelmed because you’re incapable.
You’re overwhelmed because nursing school doesn’t teach you how to think yet.

That’s what Nursing Newbie Academy fixes.

Not just memorizing facts.
Not just cramming for exams.

But learning how to:
• read a patient situation
• prioritize what actually matters
• connect symptoms, labs, and nursing actions
• walk into exams and clinicals with confidence

This is where “I don’t get it” turns into
“Oh… now it makes sense.”

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start thinking like a nurse,
you know where to go. 💎

You need to recognize red flags for melanoma because catching it early literally saves lives.
🔴 A - Asymmetry (uneven growth = 🚩)
🔴 B - Border (ragged edges = concern)
🔴 C - Color (multiple colors = red flag!)
🔴 D - Diameter (>6mm = document)
🔴 E - Evolving (any change = notify MD)

This shows up in:
✅ Head-to-toe assessments
✅ Skin integrity checks
✅ NCLEX questions
✅ Real-world nursing practice

If overwhelm had a face… it would look like 9 tabs open, a half-finished study guide, and tears in your eyes 😭
But you’re still showing up.

Still studying.

Still winning.
You don’t have to be perfect—just persistent. 🏆
Drop a 💖 if you’re still pushing through, even when it’s hard.

🚨 NCLEX ALERT 🚨

Parkinson’s + sudden freezing + “on–off” episodes 🧠
All the answers look right…

But only ONE reflects real nursing judgment 👀
This question separates
👉 memorizing meds
from
👉 thinking like a nurse
