Announcing a series of limited edition signed prints on archival sugar cane paper by renowned poet and artist, Aurora Levins Morales.

Announcing the premiere of my visual artist life!

You know me as a writer, but I have always been a visual artist, too. After many years of private art-making and two years of focused digital collage work, I am releasing my first limited edition of seven works.

Working with K. A. Artist Shop, a small, woman-owned fine arts print shop in Athens, Georgia, we are selling only 36 signed and numbered copies of each image available, printed on paper made from sugar cane, with all the layers of historical and medical meaning that sugar and its production bring.

These images are part of a deep inquiry I am making about the connections between our bodies and the land, between my own body and the planet. These works explore both harm and healing, and call for ecologically centered societies and lives, rooted in interdependence instead of extraction.

The fine art world treats collage as more “craft” than “art,” a distinction used to make hierarchies of cultures and of art-makers. To me, collage is an ancient art of piecing together the broken and torn, of making complex stories out of fragmentation. Digital work is undervalued because it’s easy to reproduce, but so was silkscreening when it was primarily used to print fruit crate labels. I use digital technology to blend, merge, alter and juxtapose found and made images to tell complex stories and about a complex world. I use it to make art in a remote, subtropical home where humidity eats paper and my best scavenging tool is my camera.

The sale of these works will help pay for the high and ongoing costs of recovering from open heart surgery, and will sustain me to continue creating my writing and visual art.

We had so much fun with “Wine and Watercolor” at The Georgia Club tonight! Thank you, ladies!

I always like to play a color-mixing game, and in honor of the upcoming summer reading season, we all mixed two custom colors to represent a book (or movie). Swipe to see all the great book recommendations!

That’s a wrap for Spring ‘26. We’ll be back at it, on second Thursdays as usual, in the Fall.

Hope to see you again!
