Happy Father’s Day from us here at Cedar Street!
If I could give my 2 cents to fathers everywhere it would be this, don’t take yourself too seriously!
Before my son was born I said I was going to be tough on him because the world was hard and he needed to know what that was like. How stupid right? Like yeah, let’s all callus and jade our children so we beat the world to the punch. I said I wouldn’t cut the edges off his bread, blah blah blah. Fast forward to now and I cut the edges off his bread because that’s how he likes it. I love on him every single day. My love for him is louder than that thing you drive on, on the road’s shoulder!
The moment my son was born, he turned me into the biggest liar on planet Earth. Right there in the birthing room when I saw him I thought to myself, “I’m not going to be tough on my son, the world will be tough enough. The world will kick him when he’s down. The world will trip him and not offer him a hand up. The world will give him all the anguish one could ever need. No, I’m going to love my son. I’m going to love him to pieces. I’m going to show him what love is, how it feels to be hugged, held, and kissed. How to show compassion and have empathy for others. How to love his neighbors.
Fathers, it’s very important that we know that our children don’t owe us anything. It is we that owe them everything. So I beg of you, if you are a “tough dad”, change.
Additionally, I have composed a short list of those who can catch these hands for messing with my son:
