Beginning Monday, May 11, the Dothan Houston County Library System will be adjusting operating hours at the Main Library and the Westgate Branch.
This change comes after DHCLS was required to suspend passport processing earlier this year. This service generated approximately $99,000 annually and helped fund programs like story time, summer reading, and STEM activities. With already limited local government funding (only $11.34 per capita, compared with a statewide average of $27.31), we’re making adjustments to ensure we can continue offering these important services to our community.
New Hours — Main Library
Monday: 10 am – 6 pm
Tuesday: 10 am – 8 pm
Wednesday: 10 am – 6 pm
Thursday: 10 am – 6 pm
Friday: 10 am – 6 pm
Saturday and Sunday: Closed
New Hours — Westgate Branch
Tuesday: 10 am – 6 pm
Wednesday: 10 am – 6 pm
Thursday: 10 am – 8 pm
Friday: 10 am – 6 pm
Saturday: 10 am – 2 pm
Sunday and Monday: Closed
We reviewed circulation, computer use, and door counts to align hours with the days and times when each location is most used. These changes will help us reduce costs while keeping core services and programs available for children, teens, and adults.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work to keep library services strong for our community.
