Grace bowers "I’m deeply uncomfortable with the amount of old men here. I’m no longer interested in playing blues or whatever the hell keeps attracting y’all”: Grace Bowers has quit YouTube over the number of “old ass creeps”

Bob Britt, Doug Lancio, & Tony Garnier stopped by the shop Saturday aft. for few hours. We had a great time trying different instruments and shared a bunch of musician stories. At least I knew who they were. When Jesse Welles stopped by a few weeks ago, I didn't have a clue who he was. Now I do.

The Telecaster body form is a great basis for a variety of builds. One I especially like is using it to make a (very) short scale bass. With telecaster body dimensions it is possible to have a scale length of from 25in to 30in without getting into trouble with bridge placement. Here's a 30in scale bass with a 24 fret neck from some 60's/70's Japanese bass. The short scale basses do not lack anything at the low end even at a 24in scale length. Ibanez micro-bass strings work fine down to a 25in scale but making them thu-body helps keep the tension reasonable.

Coral Longhorn Bass. There are probably only a few of these left in a playable state. Building started in '67 and ended when the factory closed in'69. Yes this is a Frankenbass but the neck probably came from some king of longhorn (could have been the Coral factory or maybe the Hondo factory. There were a lot of these bodies floating around at one point but I suspect only a few were ever brought to playable condition. Currently have flats on it and it sounds as it should but will probably go to half-flats to get a bit more top end.

The Harmony H1270 12 String is a monster. This one has been rebuilt (neck set, soundhole reinforcement, crack repaired on back, and french polish top. The harder you push it the louder it gets. With Martin low tension round cores on it, I can actually play the thing, Ca 1970.
