AVAILABLE ON WEBSITE $2500. Aragonite, "Birds Nest", Bisbee, Cochise County, Arizona, USA. Size: 12.5x10.5x5 cm. Here is something unusual, a Bisbee Birds Nest aragonite. These “Birds Nests” formed post mining when mineral enriched waters dripped from the ceiling to the floor coating small rocks in successive layers of aragonite forming cave pearls. The surrounding ground would also become cemented into place by the newly deposited aragonite. The resulting form was a hollow dish that was filled with white ovals which the miners likened to the appearance of a birds nest. This particular specimen was coated in plaster of paris on the back side. From the collection of Richard K. Smith

NEW KEYSTONE SALE 50% OFF WAS $1800 NOW $900. Malachite Pseudomorph after Azurite, Bisbee, Cochise County, Arizona, USA. Size: 6.4X4.0X3.8cm. Arizona is famous world wide for its massive copper deposits. Perhaps the most famous of these deposits are found adjacent to the town of Bisbee located in Cochise County. The copper deposits around Bisbee were fabulously rich and produced approximately 8 billion pounds of copper over the lifetime of its various mines (Graeme, 1981). Even more valued than the countless pounds of base and precious metals that made the miners of that era wealthy, were the aesthetically stunning mineral specimens that were produced. Bisbee has quite a variety of mineral species, with over 337 identified species according to (Graeme III, 2020). However for all the variety, the one that makes the heart race of any collector, whether novice or veteran, is a good Bisbee Azurite.

This specimen is what I would call a “fine” mineral. It has top notch luster, color, aesthetic arrangement, provenance, is from a historical mine, and is not damaged as so many of these specimens are. The chatoyancy of the malachite is top notch and a treat to rotate around watching the light reflect off the silky surface of the specimen. Really a great specimen to add to your collection if you do not have one or if you are looking to upgrade what you do have.
