This Steam Deck came to us after another repair shop attempted a charging port replacement.

The customer simply wanted the charging port fixed.

But when we opened the console… we were honestly shocked.

The logic board had been severely damaged during the previous repair attempt. Lifted pads, damaged traces, poor soldering—what should have been a straightforward charging port replacement turned into a complete board restoration.

We spent over 8 hours carefully rebuilding the damaged areas, repairing the board layer by layer, and making sure every connection was restored correctly.

This PlayStation 5 Slim came in for what seemed like a simple HDMI port replacement. 🎮

After the HDMI port was replaced, the console suddenly wouldn’t power on.

A deeper diagnosis revealed the real problem…

Cockroach contamination. 🪳

The residue left behind by cockroaches had damaged the pads under the South Bridge, causing hidden failures that weren’t visible during the initial inspection.

To bring this console back to life, we had to:
✔️ Remove the South Bridge
✔️ Rebuild the damaged solder balls and reinstall it
✔️ Replace the 3.3V DC-DC converter
✔️ Replace the damaged 3.3V power coil

This wasn’t a simple repair anymore—it became a full board-level restoration.

Many people don’t realize how destructive cockroaches can be inside electronics. Their contamination is conductive and corrosive. It can create shorts, eat away at pads and traces, and turn a minor repair into one of the most difficult jobs on the board.

PlayStation 5 Slim repair case.

This console originally came in for HDMI port replacement. But once we opened it, we found severe roach damage inside. The motherboard was heavily contaminated with roach droppings and residue across the entire board.

The customer was informed in advance that with this type of contamination there is no warranty on the repair and no guarantee the console will remain operational during the process, because roach damage is extremely unpredictable.

After replacing the HDMI port, the console stopped powering on completely.

We then moved into deep board-level diagnostics and found that the corrosive residue from the roaches had made its way underneath the Southbridge chip. The contact pads under the chip had darkened and lost proper connection to the board.

To bring the console back to life, we had to go far beyond the original HDMI repair. The final repair required:

* Southbridge replacement
* DC-DC converter replacement
* 3.3V fuse replacement

Only after all of that was the console able to power on again.

This is exactly why insect-damaged electronics are some of the most dangerous and unpredictable repairs in the industry. Sometimes the visible problem is only the beginning.
