It’s a 3 engagement party weekend for Petal, and the first event is heading out this morning! 🌸✨

This celebration is featuring one of our favorite options — a Bouquet Bar Rental with DIY flower buckets. This setup includes enough flowers for 30 guests and a beautiful rainbow of blooms, fillers, and greenery so everyone can create something uniquely their own.

Bouquet bars are always a hit at engagement parties, bridal showers, birthdays, corporate events, and girls’ nights. They’re interactive, memorable, and everyone gets to take home a little piece of the celebration. 💐

Some of our favorite moments are celebrating life’s milestones with the sweetest families. 💐❤️

We’re so excited for this incredible graduate as she heads off to become a Badger this fall! It has been such a joy creating floral for her through so many special moments over the last couple years.

For her graduation party, we created a large centerpiece, two jellies, and four vanities to make the day extra beautiful. Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment — Wisconsin is lucky to have you! ❤️🦡

Planning a graduation party, bridal shower, wedding, corporate event, or special celebration? We’d love to create something beautiful for you too: https://www.petal-flowerfarm.com/weddingsfloral

There’s a little bit of magic happening in the field right now ✨

We’re planting hundreds of dahlia seedlings this spring in hopes of creating entirely new varieties here at Petal, a Flower Farm. Unlike planting tubers — which are exact clones of the mother plant — every single dahlia seed carries completely unique genetics. That means each seedling could bloom into something never seen before: a unique color blend, petal shape, size, or form.

It’s part science experiment, part treasure hunt, and one of our favorite parts of farming.

In this video you can even see the tiny baby tubers already beginning to form on the seedlings. Those little tubers are what allow us to save and grow out the most special new varieties year after year.

Most won’t make the cut. A few might become something extraordinary. 🌸

It’s dahlia planting time! 🌱

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve planted more than 5,000 dahlia tubers and are finally wrapping up this week. One of the questions we get asked most often is how we plant them, so I wanted to share what works well for us here on the farm.

We start with a very thick layer of straw mulch — some of it donated bedding hay from the very generous sheep at Wooly Green Grazers in Mackville. It helps hold moisture incredibly well, keeps weeds down, and means we rarely need to water.

Next, we pull back the mulch and dig a shallow hole about 4–6 inches deep. We add a handful of bone meal to each hole, then place the tuber on its side with the eye or sprout facing up. (But don’t stress if yours ended up sideways or upside down — dahlias are determined growers and usually figure it out just fine.)

We use metal tags and stakes for labeling now, but later in the season they’ll also help support the taller plants.

Once planted, we cover them back up with dirt and wait patiently… without watering. Dahlias take their time, but by late summer they make the wait completely worth it. 💕
