A fascinating piece of European history and a favorite among collectors.

These antique plaster medal casts, known as impronte, were created from historic Spanish and Neapolitan coins, medals, gems, and seals and were often collected during the Grand Tour era for study and display. Each cast captures remarkable detail from centuries-old originals.

Many of the original objects featured intaglio-carved designs, where an image was engraved below the surface and could be pressed into wax or clay to create a raised impression. For centuries, intaglios served as personal signatures and symbols of identity, much like a modern seal.

Highly collectible and equally striking as décor, these pieces display beautifully framed, grouped on a gallery wall, or showcased in a cabinet of curiosities.
