Main Street Market & Books would like to wish everyone a very happy New Year! We would like to thank all of you for sharing our adventures in 2023.Here on Main Street, we have seen new businesses open and some businesses just change locations. We have had festivals, ribbon cuttings and face lifts! We have hosted farmer’s markets, ice skating and parades. And always we have welcomed new friends and old to share our small town hospitality and down home compassion. Thanks to our proactive City Council and Chamber of Commerce, we look forward to the many challenges of fitting our historic downtown with our positive outlook of the changes that 2024 will bring. Always remember to shop local and help your neighbor, no matter who that person may be.

It's just not the holidays without the Nutcracker! Register to be sent the viewing at https://bit.ly/WatchTheNutcracker

Stinson Library joins more than 200 Illinois libraries to host a special virtual performance of “The Nutcracker,” performed by the United Kingdom’s internationally renowned Royal Ballet. The performance, a recording of the holiday classic, is part of Illinois Libraries Presents’ Season 3, a collaborative effort with Illinois libraries featuring virtual events with bestselling and award-winning authors and esteemed speakers. “The Nutcracker” will be available to watch Saturday, December 16, and Sunday, December 17. Registrants will receive an email with a special link to view the performance from home at their convenience over those two days.

The Royal Ballet, founded in 1931, was granted a royal charter in 1956 to be permanently recognized as Britain's flagship ballet company. As a result, registrants can expect to see elite ballerinas in this acclaimed performance recorded in 2016. Though “The Nutcracker” was written in 1892, the ballet remains a holiday staple for all ages.

Illinois Libraries Present is funded in part by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). Many thanks to all of those who visited our community during the annual Annabelle Festival! Friends and families from far and near were lining the streets of downtown Anna on a beautiful, sunny Saturday. Thanks also, to those who stopped by Main Street Market & Books, located inside Annabelle Market. We enjoyed sharing a cup of Strawberry Lemonade and catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. We are very fortunate to have such good support from the City of Anna, our Chamber of Commerce, the Garden Club and the various local organizations that spent many hours working and organizing this yearly event to bring recognition to our area. May we all continue to enjoy the special feeling of love and pride in our small town communities.

We are proudly displaying our flag in honor of those who served and are currently serving in our armed forces. This is going to be a beautiful weekend for picnics, cookouts, and family get togethers, however, it is also a special time to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. It is also a time that used to be called Decoration Day When I was growing up, I would go with my grandparents to decorate family graves with fresh bouquets of iris’s, peonies and lilies that were grown in grandma’s garden. She had brothers who served in World War 1 and sons in World War 11. As the sun shines brightly on our beautiful land, pause for a moment to remember those who don’t share the same freedoms that we do.

Happy International Woman’s Day! I have been blessed to have had past and present strong, compassionate and supportive women in my life. From mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, teachers, nurses and friends, we have experienced the relationships of women. Many have brought great influences and unconditional love to our lives. May we remember those who have made a difference in our lives. May we also pause to honor those women who have paved a path for those who aspire to advance their dreams and ambitions. My grandmother advised me that to be a true lady, one needed to be kind. Kindness is especially needed today in our busy, changing world. Celebrate the strengths, support and kindness of women and be thankful for the women in your life who have made a positive impact.

March is here! One of my favorite months because Spring is just a promise away. Walking outside is more pleasant and glimpses of budding trees and flowers peeking from around the corner always bring hope. We can’t forget March Madness basket ball and the excitement of cheering on our favorite teams, on local courts and on television. Please take time to stop by Annabelle Market and join us on March 11th and March 24th for special events involving princesses, delicious treats, exciting sales and an escape from winter to promises of fun in the sun! See you soon!
