The Alaska Steamposium

The Alaska Steamposium We are Alaska’s first and only steampunk convention. The Alaska Steamposium was formed in 2014 and hosted their first convention in April of 2015.

What started off as a way for one lady to debut her newest bustle turned into a full fledged convention where everyone is welcome to immerse themselves in the steampunk community. With panels, vendors, and contests we want those who love steampunk to have a place to come together and celebrate their enthusiasm, introduce the culture to others, or just show off their cosplays of any kind. As we mov

e on to our third convention we are starting to visit other conventions, host other events throughout the year, and have a lot more in store for our future. This year the Alaska Steamposium presents: The Polar Emporium of Supernatural Oddities
For our 2017 convention we are reaching out to the great unknown from the last frontier. See the enchanted mermaid. Listen to the spirits as they reveal secrets of the past and the future. Sip tea alongside otherworldly werewolves. Step inside our Emporium and wonder at the objects and curiosities before you. All of our markets take cash, credit....and souls.

Many small cogs can turn a big wheel

It's no big secret that as we added a second large convention to the Alaska con community, the Steamposium has struggled. We've skipped a few years now, and were looking for a way to re-define and come back while maintaining all the things we love about or small, fan directed convention.

Enter Taikai Corp. This organization reached out to us and invited us into a coalition of small conventions teaming up to pool resources, sponsors, and advertising. We absolutely leapt into this change with all of the steamy enthusiasm we could muster!

With this change, Tess is taking the opportunity to turn over the reins of Steamposium to our beloved art director Jennifer Jarrad with the assistance of Patrick O’ Flanigan. We at the Steamposium are absolutely giddy with anticipation to see all the new directions and ideas they have in store.

Yes, we are now part of the Taikai Corp, however, we still maintain the identity of Steamposium. We are still volunteer and participant led, and we still embrace all things steampunk, science, and will continue to offer a weekend for the whole family.

Without the kindness and support of our fans, attendees and followers over the years, we would not have been able to accomplish the things we have. We welcome you to join us on this exciting continuation of the Steamposium and invite, as always, your suggestions and recommendations.

For everyone attending Senshi-Con, please be aware that due to recent events across the US, security has been increased. Take time to go to their page and review their weapons and props policy. If you need to adapt of adjust your props, post of Cosplay Alaska- the community had excellent ideas last year on how to do so.

Senshi Con provides an annual convention for enthusiasts of Asian culture, cartooning, graphic novel

As your chair, this is one of the hardest posts I've ever had to write. We have been working until the last possible moment, but with heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that there will be no Steamposium this year.

We attempted to adapt, to go with the flow, and pull off a hail Mary. And I think our track record of hail Marys is pretty good. (Anyone remember the year we had more vendors and staff than attendees?) But the honest truth is, we don't want to half ass it. We like to whole ass all of our endeavors.

There were many reasons we chose this as the best path, and a good portion of that was how to keep our booth spaces and ticket prices affordable for everyone. If anyone has paid money, it is being refunded as I type.

We're going to take a year and reorganize, and restructure, and in general change the way we do things. We completely understand if we loose some of you to anger and frustration. But we hope with all our hearts that you stick with us. We have even greater hope that some of you will join our Staff. We have far too few people to run an event of this size. Dedicated, (A small portion of the reason for our postponement for a year)

Many, many of you have concerns, comments, and suggestions moving forward. Please post them here. As with all difficult decisions, the responsibility stops with me. I wear the big bustle. My staff has worked hard, tirelessly, and even spent their own money in an attempt to make this year possible. If you need somewhere to place blame or vent anger, you direct to toward me, and me alone. You may even message me through facebook if you have questions or things to say you would like to say in private.

I do not exaggerate when I tell you that I, Kelly, and our staff are heartbroken. This is the highlight of our year, and once of the few things we do for the joy of doing it, and of seeing you every year. We hope that you stay and see what comes next for the Steamposium.

Alaska Steamposium Policy Change!

In the past we have allowed real historical fi****ms provided the firing pins were removed. Due to many venue policy changes, and the changing security concerns, REAL FI****MS, REGARDLESS OF FUNCTIONALITY, ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED AT THE STEAMPOSIUM.

As always, all weapons must be peacebonded at registration. Remember, by purchasing tickets, you agree to abide by the Steamposium code of conduct. For a full copy, visit our webpage.
