Happy Mother’s Day in heaven to the lady I strive to be when I grow up — my late Aana (grandmother), Laura Smith.

Growing up, I would watch and learn as she sewed hard-bottom mukluks, parkas, and atikluks by hand. There was a time she sat me down at camp to cut and hand-sew my first atikluk. It wasn’t perfect, yet she praised me. I don’t have her patterns, but I hope to learn and grow just as she did.

I believe my attention to detail comes from my Aana and my mom’s push to make everything I create beautiful and efficient. One day, I will sew my family their regalia from head to toe. I miss you dearly. 💛🪽
