A personal message from Janet on the importance of shopping local.
Today I told a phone customer who asked if I could match Amazon prices "No, because Amazon does nothing to support our schools or our fire departments or provide our level of customer service. If those things are important to you, hopefully you can support us."
Our state continues to struggle with budget shortfalls. For weeks we've been hearing how the Anchorage School District is struggling with their budget shortages.
Supporting local business is one way that you can make a difference. It is the local businesses that pay business taxes to help support our schools, our police and fire departments, provide local employment, and strive to give you, the customer, the best customer service. Amazon and other online services do none of those.
It is very difficult for businesses that maintain storefronts with inventory and staff and overhead to match prices with warehouses that don't have those expenses. And it is equally difficult to stay in business when we see our businesses used for looking but not for buying.
As the saying now goes, "See it here, buy it here, keep us here." Not only keep us here, but keep your dollars where they are contributing to our state's economy, not some Outside economy.
