🐟 Don’t forget that lingcod season doesn’t open 🚦 until July 1 to protect male lingcod guarding their nests!

🛥 As more anglers are getting out fishing in Southcentral and Southwest saltwaters, we have been receiving reports of anglers catching lots of lingcod in various sizes while fishing 🎣 for halibut and rockfish. 🙅‍♀️ Lingcod cannot be retained regardless of size until the lingcod season opens, and when it opens there are size and bag and possession limits. Please release all lingcod unharmed back into the water. All lingcod caught unintentionally must be landed without using a gaff and carefully released.

We’re approaching steelhead and rainbow trout spawning season! Do you know the difference between these two fish? They are the same species (Oncorhynchus mykiss), yet steelhead undertake large ocean migrations, similar to their Pacific salmon relatives, while rainbow trout spend their lives in freshwater. In rivers that support both steelhead and rainbow trout, either type can spawn with each other, and offspring of rainbows, steelhead, or the combination of the two can become either rainbows or steelhead themselves! We’ll post more about what could cause these differences and share a few other interesting steelhead facts in the coming days.
