Especially in days where I choose to stay up past my bedtime to read 🙈. What sane mother thinks that is a good idea, I don’t know 🤪. But The house of Eve was just too good to not finish last night, and while I do regret being up too late, I’m so glad I finished the book because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It will be one of those books that I’ll be thinking about for a while.

What was the last book you read that made you stay up all night to reading?

With Easter right around the corner, don’t forget to repurpose those plastic eggs! ⠀

If you tend to hold on to things like me, I’m sure you have a few bags hidden around the house too! 😆 But there’s a reason why I saved them- they are great for all types of activities including literacy!! ⠀

Those plastic Easter eggs are perfect for hidden letters 🔠 inside for hunting games, letter matching (upper and lower case!), word formation and so much more! 🤩⠀

So grab those plastic eggs and get ready for tons of literacy fun with your child! 🙌🏽 What’s your favorite way to reuse the Easter eggs?

Dear world,

Everything has been feeling heavy lately…

People we love leaving this earth too early.
Books being restricted.
Voices unheard.
People hurting.

Is it too much to ask for a place where people can have the freedom to be who they want to be, to read what they want to read, to feel safe in a place it should feel safe, to feel loved regardless of their choices, to feel heard …

To be seen for whom they are?

Is that too much to ask for the sake of our children and humanity?

Signed,
A hopeful mother

How is it the last week of March already? 🤪

I feel like we went from mid-March to end of March in a blink and so much has been happening behind the scenes over here, so no wonder it feels like time is flying by.

Friday I was MIA because we attended Acceptance Day for one of the colleges Adriana was accepted to in Rhode Island- now to figure out how many books I have to either sell or stop buying to be able to send her to college 😂.

And on Saturday Rodrigo had his usual soccer game at 8 am and then at 11 try outs for the town Travel Soccer Team…Now that we have all the results back, because his best friend also tried out, I can officially announce that I’m a soccer mom ⚽️! Now to also find out how many books I got to add to section number one because between fees and uniforms, it seems like I’m signing up for him to play for the USA team 🤪.

But also where is time going, and I don’t mean just March? I will soon have a college student and my boy who used to be my baby nearing 8 and already on a team 🥺. Someone make the time stop or next time I blink Valentina will be a kindergartner 😭.

In Martha maps it out and she loves making maps full of facts and fun details. Through her adventure, she discovers her community in the way that we’re all connected. Marta’s adventures continue in her dreams of a future where anything is possible.

And that is my hopes for Raising Readers with Aline. A community where you can find people who loves books, literacy, and a passion for reading but also a place where you can connect and dream. I hope that this space not only helps you feel inspired and encouraged to read a little bit more as mama but pass that on to your children and family so that together you can build a reading friendly home.

Books is so much more than just a fun read. It helps you learn, grow, travel, connect and live a thousand lives, it’s a way for us to connect! 🫶🏽

While you are here I hope you find the inspiration that you need whether that is book recommendations for you or your children, finding ways to make reading a little more fun for your reluctant reader, or tips on how to build a love of reading for your family 📚.

Yes, this journey may feel or look a little bit crazy sometimes but there will also be lots of notes of encouragement, facts and tips about reading and lots of fun (book) details along the way 🌈.

📚 TIPS FOR READING BIOGRAPHY BOOKS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN 📚

Biography books can be a great way to introduce children to real-life heroes and inspire them to achieve their dreams. Here are some tips for reading biography books with your young children:

1️⃣ Choose age-appropriate books. Look for biography books that are written for children and that cover topics that your child is interested in.

2️⃣ Read the book together. Take turns reading aloud or have your child read some of the easier parts. Discuss the story as you read and ask your child questions to keep them engaged.

3️⃣ Focus on the positive. Highlight the achievements and positive traits of the person being featured, rather than dwelling on their challenges or failures.

4️⃣ Make connections to your child's life. Help your child see how the person's story relates to their own life and experiences.

5️⃣ Use the book as a jumping-off point for further learning. Encourage your child to ask questions and do additional research on the person or topic.

*️⃣ If you have a younger child, make it fun! Incorporate matching games, picture cards and more hands on activities to help them absorb the information.

Reading biography books with your child can be a fun and educational experience that helps them develop empathy, curiosity, and a love of learning. Give it a try! 📖❤️

Diversifying books for children is important but so is diversifying our own bookshelf mama 😉.

While I love all books, I love adding different types of books that supports women empowerment, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction.

And lately I been adding a lot of them to my bookshelf, including Two Weeks Notice by . I love reading about successful women and then using the encouragement to pour into my own development 🧡.

Have you read any women empowering book recently?

As mamas, we want to do what we can do raising strong and confident girls (and boys too) and one way that you can reinforce that message is through books.

These are must haves when choosing the right books 👇🏽

📚 When looking for books for strong girls, consider the presence of female protagonists who are independent, resilient, and confident.

📚 Additionally, look for books that challenge gender stereotypes and promote diversity and inclusion. Strong female role models, relatable and empowering stories, and positive messages about self-worth and individuality are also important factors to consider.

What are some of your favorite books for raising confident and strong girls?

Why I became a book lady

There are a few reasons why I become a consultant with Usborne Books & More...

One I fell in love with their books! It wasn’t shortly after I got to know more about their books, that I knew I couldn’t stay away!

Two, as an educator and a mom, I know how important books are for children, and the benefits it brings them.

And finally, I wanted to help bring in the extra income to help contribute the my children's extra curricular activities!
