We are hiring!!
I hate to hire like this,, we normally try to hire people we know very well or friends in house.
We are a very close group that has to work with each other very well. You must be trustworthy and honest.
That being said.
Please read carefully. If you don’t read this we will not be hiring you since following directions is important at what we do.
Must be 18 or older.
Must be fit and active. We do a lot of physical labor. Walking, standing picking up rocks, packing rocks unloading and loading trucks and trailers of rocks.
Must be able to pick up 50-80lb all the time. Must be able to help pick up and load large crates over 100lb
All the while not tripping on uneven ground and in our chaos.
We work in a lot of tight, chaotic places. Trip fall hazards are our lives.
Attention to detail is important. Attention to direction is important.
Follow through is important.
Must be able to follow instructions.
Knowledge of rocks, fossils and crystals is a big plus.
You must be aware and ok with a very dusty, chemical or paint smelly, Smokey work place.
You will get dirty dusty and ruin your clothes. We provide smocks if you want but that doesn’t keep the sand out of your hair.
Must be communicative. We need input, we want to know if there is a problem of somthing that needs corrected. We need to know if you’re not able to come to work.
Duties
Helping customers, (this is where knowledge of rocks really helps)
Loading unloading for shows and collections.
Organizing piles of rocks (a whole lot of pick it up put it down)
Restocking.
Prepping of dinosaur fossils (we will train) this is where instruction and attention to detail comes in. You will be sitting at a desk with a vibratory scribe for hours and days sometimes. If your hands are sensitive to vibration this job is not for you.
Restoration of fossils
Acetone, Bondo paint ect (must not be sensitive to these things.
Loading unloading rocks either at the shop or at locations when we buy an estate.
Scrubbing mud and dirt from rocks and fossils. (Might get a bit wet)
A lot of odd jobs might be required. We literally had a new employee on there first day help us make 48 quarts of salsa 😂
Might have to help feed the chickens,,,move water in the yard ect. As we are gone digging dinosaur and to shows everyone helps keep the place running.
A typical day….
Show up, clock in
Help package a dozen boxes to ship out, sit down and start prepping on a dinosaur bone. Bell rings and help with a customer. We pull in and you come out and help unload a bunch of milk crates of rock we just picked up
Help sort and label the rocks,,go back to prep, help another customer, go spray paint some stands to the Dino bones, help a customer. Help us pick up a bunch of crates and slide them in a trailer for a show ,,help a customer,,,Ect ect
Did I mention the weather. Customers come in all weather conditions. You may be out in a the snow or you may be in the sun helping them,,,actually,,no mabey about it if it starts snowing they will show up….
Wages…we try to be competitive for the industry but wages have increased faster than we can keep up in Utah. Pay won’t be huge,,however, we do give profitability bonuses that add up and usually make up for quite a bit.
Schedule.
We need someone that can work 40 hour weeks
Our hours are 9-5. 7 days a week
Somtimes you will have to work weekends. We require at least two people be here at all times and when we go to a show and digging you might have to rotate weekends or a day on the weekend to keep the shop staffed
However. We are flexible. As long as people are here and it’s communicated we let people take time off pretty much anytime. If it becomes a part time job that is an issue but if you want to take an extra day off or need to go take care of somthing we are easy that way.
I worked at corporate for years and do not want this shop like that
We have a lot of fun here,,all the employees end up with rocks,,,it’s just part of the thanks and “bonus “ for being a good employee. It’s not uncommon for everyone to have a small stash they want as pwe go through collections.
We are not always the most “hr friendly” group, bad jokes, teasing and foul language is just life around here.
If there was something serious happen it would be dealt with immediately but if you get offended by a fart joke this is not the place for you.
As you become experienced you will have an option to get paid to go on dinosaur digs, even collecting trips to a few specific locals for the shop ect.
You will make a lot of friends in the rockhounding community at this job and hopefully become part of the family.
Contact me directly or swing by the shop and let’s talk if you think this could be a good fit for you.
Thanks
