A Letter to the Dead

What a beautiful thing it is to be remembered.

So many things will slip through the cracks of our memory as time takes its toll on the bodies that carry a part of your soul with us.

It will come and steal these precious memories as if they belong to it.

Most days, Time will look us in the eyes and make us believe that the people that have come and gone are worth forgetting.

It hurts less that way.

Before you know it, all we have left to remember you are a million shards of a picture frame we don’t know how to put back together.

No matter how much we want to.

So we sit there. In a puddle of our own regret trying to feel something from the thought of you.

And like a gust of wind on our skin we do. But it only stays for a moment because it has places to be.

You are our Ancestors.

We are only alive because you dared to exist.
Because you chose to live and bring life into our bodies.
The ones God crafted in your image.

Too many of us forget that.
Too many of us are consumed by the person who stares back at us in the mirror.

Like ornaments on a tree, we decorate our rib cages with all the compliments this materialistic world has given us. Showing them off like trophies.

We may as well be dead too.
Because to live is to remember why it is that you are able to.

So today, we must remember that it is you that has given us this life.

You will never be forgotten.
You are resurrected each year in the roses.

This collection was built in reverence.

In long nights of designing. In the rhythm of sewing machines.

The kind of joy that comes from making something that means something.

Every stitch holds a story.
