Miko Update
You may have noticed we've been a bit quiet for the last week, and here's why. About a year ago Miko was diagnosed with Stomatus in her jaw and had a lump growing there. She had surgery which removed the lump, a part of her tongue, and all of her teeth at that time. the lump was shown to be benign and she recovered well from that surgery. We thought all was going to be OK. A couple of weeks ago we noticed she had another lump along her jaw line, so we took her back to the vet for another check-up. They did a biopsy and we got the results back at the beginning of this week. This time she has been diagnosed with a fast growing oral squamous cell carcinoma and given 3-4 months without treatment. The treatment offered was to remove a small part of her jaw to remove the growth, but the prognosis after doing this is that she would have a 70 plus percent chance of it coming back within a year, and during that year we would still be keeping her on pain meds for a good portion of it. After much discussion, crying, and soul searching we have decided not to put her through that, and will be keeping her as comfortable as we can for as long as we can. At this point she is still heavily pain medicated, which has the side effect of making her sleep a lot, so you won't see her much out in the shop. But when she is there, please be kind and gentle with her and don't over stimulate her. and don't be surprised if you see us crying every so often. This will be difficult to get through. She has been with us for 14 years and has been a big part of our family as well as the shop. There most likely won't be another update until she has passed
